farewell, Bleak House!

I finally finished reading Bleak House!!! I love Charles Dickens' writing, but I so relieved to be done with this book! It took me about 6 1/2 months! I wasn't reading it all the time, I would drop it for weeks at a time, actually. Parts of it were so unspeakably boring. And part of the story revolved around a certain case, which no one ever explained in any way. So in about 35% of the book, I was almost clueless as to what the point of anything was, if that makes sense.....

One very interesting thing about this book was the silly names! I am not kidding, every last name in this book, except possibly 4, were SO silly! And I know that England has some surnames that may sound silly to me, just as some surnames in America would sound ridiculous in other countries. But I thought these names went beyond that distinction. Dickens HAD to have done this on purpose! And now I will proceed to list them, and pray that none of my readers have them as their own last names, which they don't because only like 4 people read this! ::

Jarndyce (I thought of yellowing skin every single time I read it, ruined it for me)
Bucket
Jellyby
Turveydrop (my favorite!)
Tulkinghorn
Smallweed
Bagnet
Flite
Gridley
and......
Guppy!

Guppy takes the cake! And there's more, I just didn't keep a running count of them. I should have done that, though!

The normal-sounding ones included:
Carstone
Summerson
Woodcourt
Dedlock

And that's enough for making fun of Bleak House, I am finished! Thank God!
